Tonal issues with different bridge/tail setups

Post by lawton »

Hey. As most of the "regulars" know, I have a 325C58 that I've modified with a vintage trapeze tailpiece. A "side" discussion in another thread brought up the point that tonal differences should be expected between a 325 with a trapeze and a 325 with a Bigsby due to the weight of the Bigsby and the string pressure over the bridge. My C58 still has the stock roller-bridge installed. I have, however, a "regular" Rick six-string bridge that should fit on the C58 bridge plate. What sort of tonal changes could I expect (if any) were I to pull the roller-bridge and install the standard bridge? What other issues might I have to deal with (more string breakage?) with the change?

Thanks!
