I think it is either FG or walnut. Here it is lightened up a bit.

First of all, the bottom knob cap is either gone or the knob is different. The chrome looks beat. The E string is barely on the board. The photos are too dark and bad rez....what do sellers think when they dis the axe and the bidders with this slop? Geez.....

It looks like some variant of autumnglo to me, and while I agree about the ****** pics, it shore does look purty!

A while back I said here in some thread that autumnglo was opaque. I have since checked my 1980 AG and found that I can see woodgrain through the finish pretty much everywhere if I use a bright light. It is transparent but barely. Autumnglo and walnut are different but I am not entirely sure how. Walnut is definately lighter than AG and perhaps even a different shade of brown. If it is brown, this bass is more walnut than AG.

The color is nice, it's growing on me, at first I thought it was RIC's equivalent to Fender's Antigua, now I think it's sort of an "old Hofner burst" - wonder what it would look like with a bound pearloid pickguard. What I don't like is the thick-horns period in the 4000 Series body shape evolution.

I did not like the color of my AG when I bought it back in 1981 but I really like it now. One of the reasons it looks so good today is because I never played it back then. I had a stable of black 4001s and my 4002 that I played to death while the AG chilled in the case. I guess I made my own closet classic. I still think walnut is a better looking color though.

All of the walnuts I have seen have a gloss finish. Some autumnglos have matte finishes.
