that's what happens when you live where no man has lived before !!!
Yeah, but it makes it easy to say I own all of the Ricks in the neighborhood...

If you're the "only" anything, then a word like "neighbor" loses its significance...

In other words, there can be no "B" where there is no "A"...or something like that

Ain't them prairie dawgs cute???

Actually, all of the "prairie" stuff and lack of neighbors only applies to where I used to live a year or so ago. That was in a county with a population of 4200 and an area of 5212 square miles, 0.88 people per square mile. We didn't have prairie dogs though, just Richardson's ground squirrels, which are just about as bad when it comes to farming.

Now that I've "retired" from farming, I live in a densely populated part of Montana. This county has a density of 16 people per square mile! A whopping 40,000 people in 2400 square miles! A guy can hardly even move without seeing someone!

Oh, no prairie grass or dogs here, just mountains, lakes, rivers, deer, elk, bears. There might actually be someone else in this county who has a Rick, but I haven't seen 'em yet...

Q: Why the backlog?
A: Because they've stayed true to who they are.

Q: Who buys them and plays them?
A: Me. X 12.

More isn't always more. And less ain't just short for Leslie.
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

How can Rickenbacker be so back logged

Wondering if you have one or more Lefties on order because apparently more Lefty guitars are being produced this summer and 4003 models are to follow, according to published sources. http://www.facebook.com/ricguitars http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... 659&type=1

I feel for you, knowing that Lefty models are so few and far between .... :(

I'm not going to bite on the rest of this (if only for the tortuous reading) but I'll address the size issue a bit.

Size is pretty relative.

Yes, as far as electric guitars go, we're smaller than Fender, Gibson, Peavey, and PRS. Everyone is probably smaller than the Asian cartels. On the other hand, we're bigger than, say, G & L, Charvel, Jackson, Gretsch, Vox or Washburn, or Danelectro, never mind the myriad boutique makers.

But that's not saying much, when you consider that the world's entire sales for electric guitars is smaller than that of M & M's. It's a cottage industry.
Hey, I've seen your factory and it is bigger than a cottage.

Back to the original topic-
It seems like Rick may be backlogged, and there is certainly a lengthy wait.
One way around this is to see what dealers have on order and when particular orders were placed.
The longer it has been on order, the less the wait (I stress , "In Theory").
Being a lefty is challenging true, so from that aspect you might be faced with a long wait.
Or, keep looking, an instrument will eventually turn up...

...as a leftie waiting for a Rick, you might as well meanwhile train yourself to become a righty!

Heres the formula I use:

there's roughly 7 billion people in the world

Some of them are guitar players

Theres only 1 family owned business in Santa Ana California that makes Rickenbackers

You might not see them everywhere, but if you read other forums like I do, everybody wants one.

I have seen much better investments than electric guitars.

To be fair, I also have seen much worst.

This being said, it is a hobby where you will get back a fair chunk of your expenses when you resell.

In March 2012 I wanted a brand new RIC 4003. I called Dave's Guitar Shop in La Crosse WI, got a price quote, checked the inventory on line, drove 90 minutes, and I had a superb brand new MG 4003 that was manufactured in February accompany me home. It didn't appear to be too difficult to find a superb quality product from a superb quality dealer.
