Pic of a 4001 or 4003 with a gold pickguard...wanted
I was curious if anyone has put a gold pick guard, same color as those in the 50's and early 60's, but the shape of the later 60's and on 4001's....or 4003's for that matter. I am thinking of doing a 4001, 'blue boy' in color and was wondering how it would look with a gold pickguard that is not in the shape of the original. Thanks for any pictures or comments...

First thing I could think of...75th Anniversary edition:

It's got a logo etched into it, but otherwise...go here for more pics.

Well, it's not "Burgundy", it's Dark Cherry Metallic or DCM. Totally different colors in the Rick world...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Here's a pic of my old Jetglo 4003 that is now in the very talented and capable hands of Brian Medway:
The bass also has a matching nameplate (you can't see from the pics) painted in the same color as the pickguard.

Thanks for the pictures!
Gives me some idea what my options are. I want the vibe of the 1960ish Blue Boy but not sure I want to add extra holes to make the more accurate pickguard. Not even sure that would look good actually........Then again, why not?

I recognize that picture really well... Sooo nice to have that beauty right next to me as I type ! Honestly, the gold pickguard with the logo is fabulous on those extremmely rare Ric basses!badeggs wrote:First thing I could think of...75th Anniversary edition:

James, send your original to Pickguardian so he can make you a custom one in the color you want with the same holes.

Here's the lighter version of Montezuma Brown with a Pickguardian back-painted signature pickguard in vintage gold:

Yeah, guess that would be the best idea. I will try and call them tomorrow and see what is the best way to go about it.....jdogric12 wrote:James, send your original to Pickguardian so he can make you a custom one in the color you want with the same holes.

I thought it might be a bit off but no, the gold pickguards indeed look great? Where can we find them?

I had this made for a project I am working on. Its aluminum and then I had it annodized.. the guy doing my bass is also building a 700 sq ft deck.. so the project has slowed but its getting closer..
