So how is it that these guys are allowed to make a RIC style headstock?

It is not a RIC style headstock, the shape is totally different. The slotted headstock is just an adaptation that goes back at least into the mid 1800s, probably earlier. so nothing taken, here.

I thought RIC had a patent on that type of 12-string headstock where 6 are one way and 6 are the other.
The shape is not totally different..... the patent is not on the shape of the wood but the combo-style of
the tuners.... right?

Its advertised as "Modern 12-stringers continuing Rickenbacker's benchmark".... just wondering if they had
to pay RIC to do this..... or maybe the patent has run out?

If it were a patent, it would be long expired (they only last 17 years). Now, trademark/trade dress is another thing entirely, but I don't really know whether this headstock design falls under that category...

In December 1960, Charles ‘Chas’ Newby was temporarily the bassist for The Beatles. The members of The Beatles had returned from their first trip to Germany in early December, except for bassist Stuart Sutcliffe who stayed behind in Hamburg with a cold. Sutcliffe didn’t return back to Liverpool until January 20, 1961, with airfare money borrowed from his girlfriend Astrid Kirchherr. In the meantime Newby, a friend and former band mate of Pete Best (in The Blackjacks and skiffle group The Barmen), filled in on bass for four gigs with the Beatles.

In the book Liddypool: Birthplace of The Beatles, Newby said this about his start in music – “I started playing acoustic guitar and then progressed to the bass guitar. I never wanted to be a professional musician – I had always longed to be a scientist.” In fact, during his brief stint with the Beatles, Chas was on vacation from a university he was attending. John Lennon asked him to go with the Beatles to Germany when they were to make their second trip there, but he chose to return to the university instead. Newby would later become a Mathematics teacher at Droitwich Spa High School in Worcestershire, England.

When Stuart Sutcliffe left the band in August 1961, Paul McCartney switched from guitar to bass to permanently fill that vacancy. It’s interesting to note that like Paul, Chas is also a left-handed bass player. And not only that, they share the same birthday (June 18) with Chas being one year, to the day, older than Paul.

It's a little known fact that Paul McCartney briefly left the Beatles
in 1963 to apply to the US astronaut program. He was rejected
due to CapCom's inability to understand his quirky accent.

Azena Ballroom, Sheffield, 2 April 1963

On February the 11th, the day before the Azena Ballroom gig, The Beatles recorded the remaining 10 tracks that would make up their debut album - all in one day. On the 12th they were in Sheffield for the gig. Stringfellow had sold 2000 tickets for the show - the Azena's capacity was 500, and a further estimated 1000 people turned up on the night to try their luck. It was bedlam. Amazingly, The Beatles also played another gig in Oldham that same day.

The poster below is a fake.... the group didn't start using the "Drop-T" logo until May 1963.
