Boost pedal for solos

I wondered what kind of boost pedal people use for solos? I haven't found anything that cuts through the rest of the band without drastically altering the sound of the guitar. The Contour channel on the Mesa is good except I use that channel most of the time for regular playing; so it is set at that volume.

So far I've tried a Boss DS-1 (cuts through but sounds buzzy); and an MXR Full Bore Metal (still experimenting with it). Anyone tried the MXR Micro Boost or the Amptweaker Tightrock?

Sparkle Drive; it has a clean and a dirty side, and you can mix however much you want of each to get the sound you want.

Our lead guitarist has a Seymour Duncan boost pedal and seem quite happy with it (meaning it has been on his pedalboard for a few years now ).

I believe that you would be very happy with the radial engineering PB1 "Big Shot." I also think Werner would love this pedal too but not because of the name.

Lately I have been using a true bypass passive volume pedal with a fixed volume setting. I set the lead tone on the amp, then turn on the volume pedal and reduce to rythm volume. This is a pot and footswitch, not a wah style V pedal. No tone change.

I have used and liked the Morley volume pedal. I don't like fiddling around with the knobs when I'm trying to think about playing, so I use a Morley to boost or cut much more easily. At one time they became second nature to my bass playing too.

I like the King of Tone. The boost side is really clean. You have to wait a while to get one at a reasonable price though. I also have a 65 Amps Colour Boost. There are four tone settings on the CB, and one is neutral.

A pedal that I like and want (badly) is the Way Huge Electronics Red Llama. I've seen demos on this and from what I gather, it can go from light crunch to pure overdrive with just a turn of the knobs.

At least I didn't recommend a Fuzz Face, Tone Bender or Maestro Fuzz Tone. Definitely NOT what you want, Morgan...gnarliest sounding pedals, ever. If clean is what you're looking for, I too am cast a vote for volume pedal.

Volume pedals don't boost, they cut, but if one has the "normal" setting pulled back a bit, then I guess pushing the pedal to the metal will offer a boost, of sorts.
