My new 4001!

Post by Baker69 »

Hi guys,

Here is a pic of my new, (well new to me anyway), 4001 Jetglo Lefty, with a manufacturing date of May 1978.

It has a few dings, paint chips and even a bit of buckle rash on the back but is in pretty good condition for a '78. The action on the neck is really low with no fret rattle anywhere, it plays and sounds really good and simply oozes that traditional Ric growl! 8)

The pickguard is an aftermarket fit but all other hardware I am assured is original. It came complete with a deluxe Rickenbacker Case. It has slight tail lift (as you would expect) but not too great to cause any concern.

This is not my first Ric (which was also a '78 4001) which I regrettably sold back in 1997/1998, although that particular one never did it for me as I could never get the right sound out of it and it wasn't as good to play as my latest one.

Very pleased to be a Ric owner once again and looking forward to hopefully getting a Mapleglo 4003 lefty sometime in the future.

Nice one!

I'm grateful that some manufacturers do cater for us lefties but they never look right to me, they always look more 'natural' in right hand model but I suppose it's because we've all got used to seeing predominantly right handed guitars and basses.

It's interesting that the inlays arn't oriented to match the left handed body. I assume it has to do with tooling and being too much trouble to do it differently for the small quantity of lefties they produce.
