Here in the UK, some of us (me included) still remember him not as Richard – but as Dickie Dawson. English by birth, during the late 50s early 60s he could be seen on British TV as a stand-up comedian. However, on this side of the Atlantic, Richard Dawson will always be known not for what he later went on to achieve on American TV – which we were largely ignorant of here in the UK - but for the woman he was married to from 1959 to 1966. While American cinema had Marylyn Monroe, British cinema had Diana Dors.

This You Tube clip of the “Diana Dors Show” – featuring “Dickie” Dawson – was originally aired for two seasons (1959 to 1961) on British television.
