palm muting?

I just pick up another bass when I wanna palm mute.

The Danelectro is my favorite for that. Quite an amazing sound, with flats.

Oh yes. I also really like my Stingray for that, with the treble way up. It gives a really amazing percussive click.

I tend to not palm mute much,but of course the 4004's are pretty perfect for doing that. Now that i have flatwounds on the cii,i may have to give that a go. And also having the hipshot bridge on the 4000 helped with that. No knobs or teeth to get in the way.....

Is there a way to lower the "teeth" below string level, to keep the look? Cut them and weld without the "feet"? Can zinc be welded? Will it need re-plating?

Zinc can be welded, but it is quite difficult. The chrome would have to be removed as it would contaminate the weld and the heat would cause the chrome to buckle/peel from the remaining areas. On a part such as this, it would be nearly impossible unless you found someone highly skilled in zinc welding (and the few who exist probably don't do intricate work such as this) and even then would probably require several tries to get it right (probably destroying the tailpiece if things went wrong).

In other words, it's just not cost effective to even think about welding it...
