A friend of mine bought a Rickenbacker 4003 (the "mapleglo"), turns out it was probably manufactured on the same date as mine, and built by the same person (based on the signature and scribbling in the cavities). The jetglo is bone stock, de "mapleglo" is a stripped jetglo, with a 4003 tailpiece (with the extra screws to counter the taillift) and a horseshoe pickup... Both are unmistakeably the same qua vibe and playability, but the sound is totally different, with the jetglo being a bit more mellow, and the mapleglo a real punchy growler!

ReIssue... But he got the bass for dirt-cheap (like: dirt-cheap!), I guess the horseshoe is half the value of the whole bass.

Very nice basses. The MG doesn't look stripped from JG; it was a good job. BTW, they are 4001 basses. The 4003 wasn't even made yet for almost 8 years when these two were created.

Whoops, that was a slip of the keyboard, I meant 4001. Only the bridge is from a 4003.

Yep, wood isn't exact science. I used to own two identical 1975 Fender P's with almost consecutive serial numbers, one is fantastic (and a keeper), the other - mediocre at best.Mr.Fingers wrote:probably manufactured on the same date as mine, and built by the same person (...) but the sound is totally different
