Re: Song Order - Advice Please?
Keep the songs that are the easiest to play, that you play the best, and ditch the rest.
If you have the full 75 minutes, you still may want to take a short break in the middle and run an IPOD through the sound system...not with the same songs on it you're playing in either set.

Paul has given you a wealth of good advice here Ivan. I agree with all of it. Listen to him!
Re: Song Order - Advice Please?
I sure wouldn't leave any of my gear overnight at a community center.
You know you have I Saw Her Standing There repeated? I wouldn't repeat a song for the encore. That's the tricky part about encores. You have to reserve a song good enough to play last, but one that you can live with not playing in case you don't get an encore!
Put two slow songs together and announce "bathroom break." I saw R.E.M. on the Monster Tour, and they said something to that effect before one of the slower songs, either Tongue or F Me Kitten, IIRC. It was hilarious.

+2. I'm with John here. Paulie is probably one of the best live performers I've seen and really knows his stuff. I'd listen to him...paologregorio wrote:Keep the songs that are the easiest to play, that you play the best, and ditch the rest.

Also, our 'Break' is the song Out of My Mind No one sings, its really slow and smooth the way we do it.

Re: Song Order - Advice Please?
I saw a band at an all day rock festival last weekend that opened with Sg Pepper's. It was really better than I would imagine, and also got the audience hinted at the fact that there were a few more Beatles songs coming up in their set. As much as I personally dislike hearing this song for the umteenth time, I was still entertained and liked their skill on the song. This band's mix of Gibson Les Paul and a Gretsch hollow body had a nice ring to it.
One may think the Beatles songs are all "oldies", but any Beatles song usually will grab a mixed audience, seemingly year after year.

There is nothing wrong with asking for some good advice. You can avoid learning the hard way, or at your own expense. Why dont you and your band figure it out?
When you go on the stage the first thing is that they will look at your band. Then if you open with a few good songs, their ideas about how good, or how bad you might be will all be set in order.

Re: Song Order - Advice Please?
I was in a band that played "Get Back". If you do a good job on this song don't do it last. It will grab a lot of interest if done earlier in your set. "American Woman" is not a very requested song to play (in the USA). I would feature Get Back, and put one of your less interesting songs before your Sgt Pepper reprise.
