question re. registering....instrument
I went to list my RIC and when I put in the ser# the board says that it already exists....to be honest with you all this sent my stomach into knots...oh **** I got took...oh ****, oh ****, oh ****. I have done a little looking though and my RIC seems to be real or it's the best darn fake I've ever seen. Jack plate has ser#, screen print standard/RIC-O-Sound, double truss rod, beautiful finish, neck through body. I'm just a little confused...the IMG of the existing RIC on the forum isn't the same guitar, or if it is somethings have been changed....mine has a upgraded treble P/U (horseshoe) & vintage truss cover. The IMG is of an Amber Fireglo 4003 from 2007-06 registered Jan 19, 2008...in Idaho USA. I guess it could have made it's way to San Francisco, that was where it was mailed from. Would enjoy some feedback as to whats up...seller on Ebay stated 2007 (ser# ok) never played with upgrades...I hope this isn't a buyer beware!
Re: question re. registering....instrument
Ken, check the register listing to see whether it has the notation "CI" which means Collected Item. Being that the item was on eBay, it may have been there previously (before any upgrades) and someone may have 'collected' the information (serial number and image) and put it into the register as a collected item.

Re: question re. registering....instrument
I don't think you have anything to worry about. As doctorwho said, there are MANY instruments in the register that as "CI" instruments. These are all instruments that have been entered because someone saw them in some public place (ebay, etc.) and entered the info. There are even a lot on brand new, unsold instruments listed as CI's. Some dealers post the serial numbers on their websites and often these get entered into the register too.
Since the register is merely a research tool and has NOTHING to do with warranty registrations, etc. entering as many instruments as we can find only helps to increase the body on information available.
Oh, and just send a PM (private message) to "admin" or "gibsonlp" and they will take care of assigning the entry to you so that you can then update it yourself...

Re: question re. registering....instrument
I have at least one Rickenbacker that was marked as "CI" in the registry before I got it. After Peter or Gil transfers the registration to you, add your own pics, so the pre-addition to the registry feels more personal to yourself.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

Assuming this is yours, it certainly has been modded since it left the factory.. Looks good though!

Re: question re. registering....instrument
Ken: I usually recommend that these arrangements be made privately. As you have decided to post here, please be assured that this instrument is now under your My Records and you can edit the file and upload photos accordingly. If you have any difficulty please contact me through a Private Message and we will make it right.

Re: question re. registering....instrument
I apologize if I have committed a faux paux. I am not trying to create a problem....I was genuinely concerned....one never knows what one might get when one buys something sight unseen except for a photo. I was looking for imput from those who know much more re. this topic than I do. Again i am sorry if I aired this in an inappropriate manner.
Re: question re. registering....instrument
No worries, you didn't commit any anything other than asking a question to find out more info. That's the whole point of this forum anyway, learning things about Rickenbackers and helping those who don't know to learn more...

Re: question re. registering....instrument
Same thing just happened to me.....my serial number already listed but it does show it as a CI.
I sent the admin an email requesting info on how to add my info and claim it.

Re: question re. registering....instrument
Ken there was no faux pas at all. I hope all is in order now. My preference is to keep the register entries as confidential as possible. That was the reason for my comment.
