On a more serious note a Fireglo 1972 4001 sold for just over $2600 on ebay, which is more in line IMHO of where these basses are going in terms of a realistic value....I suppose someone could spend $4K on one of these, if they wanted it bad enough. They're not going down in value, that's for sure...
The price is quite steep but it sure looks good.
I agree that the $2000-2600 range sound more realistic.
Funny, but I have also called my RIC the "Holy Grail" when I found it and I paid alot less than $4000. It's been posted before, but here it is.
Wow, and I didn't pay anywhere NEAR any of the prices you guys are talking about when I bought my '71 model 21 fret a year or two ago... I just can't believe how the prices of these seem to be rising!
"This is the big one, Elizabeth, I'm coming to join ya, honey!"
Gene, Let's see the 21 fretter! I've heard much about the elusive 21 fret version on this forum. Was it an experiment or special order? What years was it offered?
FYI, mine was born in Sept. 1971 and has a bit of flame, especially on the neck. I've noticed that quite a few from this era are flamey.
