Just got a Jangle Box

Post by larsongs »

Hey,

Haven't been around for a while because I've been busy Writing, Playing & Recording. Hope everyone is well.

One of my Mates, Hardprom, over at Beat Gear Forum sent me his Jangle Box to try out. I just know him from the Forum but he offered to send it to me to try, how cool is that? Anyhow after trying it out for a few days with all my Guitars thru my Vox Amp I was hooked. We made a deal & I bought it.

Man, I gotta tell you if you haven't tried one you're really missing what these things can do for your Ricks (& other Guitars). It's like they were made for eachother. They should come with Ricks.

Just gotta saym Hardprom you are a cool Dude!

Thanks,

Glenn

I know what you're saying about the J-Box and other guitars, Glenn. Just for fun and grins, I plugged my Gretsch 5120 into my Jangle Box and oh boy, what a sound!

Glenn, what Ricks and other guitars do you have?

Although it really shines with my 360/12, my JB2 has become a habit for all my guitars.

I hear what you're saying.

I have a '90's Rick 360 Maple Glo 6 String & a 2002 Rick 360 Fire Glo 12 String which sound awesome through the Jangle Box & my Vox AC15CC1X with Alnico Blue Spkr. As do most of my other Guitars, Epi IBJL Revolution Casino, Epi 1961 50th Anniv. Re-Issue Casino w'Tremtone, Phantom Brian Jones Teardrop 6 String, Gibson J160E, a cheapy Rondo-Music Furrian SX Tele w/ Tele Pup at the Bridge & a P90 at the Neck(cool sounding combo) & also have a Gretsch G5120 too. They all sound great with the Jangle Box.

I haven't been able to dial in my Gibson Les Paul Std Plus, Fender 40th Anniv. Strat or my CV Tele? Probably me though. Still working with them.

Thanks,

Glenn

PS I got that Rondo Music Guitar after seeing a review in Guitar Magazine on a Fano Alt De Facto SP6 with the same P/U config. I didn't want to spend $2600.00 on a Guitar that I can't find in a Store to play. I wasn't sure I'd like the sound with that Pup config. So a BGC Forum Friend suggested the Rondo Music Gtr that was the same setup but $128.00. Too cheap! Figured at worst I could throw it away. Turns out I love the sound & it is a really cool Guitar. Built good, looks good, plays good & sounds great. Still, I would really like the Fano. That just might be the sound I've been looking for. It's pretty much all my Guitars rolled into one. Well, except the Rick 360 12 string that is.

I think most of us are well aware of Jangleboxes here, but now you've had your big "A-Ha" moment. Enjoy it.

Glenn, it sounds like you have all of your favourite tones covered. Loving the Janglebox is easy. Thanks for your review. I still enjoy the original JB.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Haven't played my janglebox for a while......seems to be making a buzz/hissing noise. You obviously can't hear it when you play but, in between songs, it doesn't sound very nice. (especially when on the bright/trebly setting...it's the original black box

Regarding compression, "noise" in general can be tricky stuff and caused by a wide variety of issues. The important thing is that there is no noise generated in the signal when the pedal is actually compressing. As a test, if you record DI (direct input) with a JB, you'll hear no extraneous sounds at all.

The good news is that our next pedal is going to make all of this a moot issue anyway.

When will they be on sale Steve?......will they be released in the UK at the same time as the US?

I don't want to say too much about it, but we're looking at the end of summer as a launch date. Yes, I know I've been somewhat unreliable on previous release dates  but our electronic engineer is wrapping up the prototype right now. The pedal art is done, and PCB components, enclosure, knobs, etc have all been decided and sourced.

Both Sound Affects and Rickysounds will carry it in the UK, and you can always buy directly from our web site.

Interesting since I sold my first janglebox due to the noise issues (maybe I just had a flaky one).
Loved the sound of it though so I am really looking forward to seeing what you guys are about to come out with.

Steve,

Please keep us all posted on that release date. I adore my JB2 and can't wait to try your newest pedal. When you say late summer, is that the time the pedal will appear on your website?

When I first tried an original (black) Jangle Box I thought it was exteremely noisey and couldn't see investing in one. It turns out that where I had tried it there was a huge breaker box supplying the building I was in on the opposite side of the wall I was next to ( I didn't know this at the time). There was also some 2-way radio equipment in the next room. When I tried the same JB in my home it was quiet as could be. I can only assume that all of the electical wiring and RF in the area was pickup up by the guitar, wiring, and or JB that creating the noise. Although you can't always control your environment don't be too quick to point fingers at the JB as I initally did.
