Need help identifying my basses...

Post by Katchagirl »

Hi guys,

So, you guys were SO helpful with informing me about my Shadow, that I wanted to see if I could get some help identifying my two other Ricks. I looked up the serial numbers on here, but it only tells me what month and year the bass was manufactured. I'm so terrible with my Rick knowledge, that I don't even know what style basses I have... When I got them, MANY years back, I just knew that I LOVED the way they sounded and the way they look! :D

So, here you go... have at it!

PS - once I get ya'lls feedback, I'm going to register all 3 of my Ricks.

Serial # YF-0738, June 1985, Black:

Serial # UG-2410, July 1981, Burgundy (was hard to get a good shot of the color - it looks black in most of the shots I took):

THANKS in advance for your help!

Katherine, the JetGlo '85 is an early-style 4003. The truss rods are the old style (loosen rods, move/hold the neck, snug up the rods) but instead of adjusting at the headstock they adjust at the body end, thus the split pickguard. The Burg is a late 4001 model and a beauty too.

The first one in Jetglo (what you called black) is the first type of 4003 which can be quickly recognized by the 2 piece pickguard.

The second one in Burgundy is a 4001S and I really loving that one. That looks really sweet!
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

SERIOUSLY jealous of your burgundy 4001S!

And I think the Shadow is "the best bass for metal".

Now, get out there and rock these beauties!
Turn on, tune up, rock out!

Ummm, uhh, Kat..... you should consider coming out to SCARF this year (do a search on SCARF). You could bring along one or two of those beautiful basses (especially the BURG). Phoenix to Southern California isn't that far a drive, is it? Heck, we sometimes get folks from AU/NZ. Or Europe. THOSE are long drives. Tom

Definitely! I'm planning on coming from Montana and another guy may show up from Kansas, so yeah, AZ's cake! Plus I've heard it's a great time!
