12 string bass guitar

Let me know how you like it, Marc. I've heard some good things, some bad, but at the price, it's worth a shot. I don't like the headstocks on those things at ALL. Does yours have the number "12" on it?

Oh well. I would havce never found it as my search was for 12 string bass. Even If I did, I'm always nervous buying from 0 feedback.

Funny thing is, the seagreen Musicvox I bought appearently is some kind of limited edition of 12 with an original retail of $2000.

BTW, where does one get strings, and what kind?

The 12 string market is an odd one I guess. I just know the sound is right for my group.

12 string sets are a little more difficult to come by than normal sets, I know Hamer sells a set, GHS, and SIT. I like the SIT strings, the original Hamer strings that came on my bass were very nice.
There is a link here to ordering strings....I think juststrings.com is one of the better places. You can order them as singles or they can make up a set for you.
Also guitarpartsresource.com has the SIT strings for $39 a set.

I believe this is the one you have coming to you, Marc. There were only a very limited number of these made. I'm guessing 10 or 12.

Good to know info on the strings as well.

I do wish that I had known about the Hamer auction before buying the Musicvox. I have my eye on it thoug, in case it goes cheap.

Ok, whats the big advantage of a 12 string VS. an 8 string?

Years ago, I owned an early Hamer 8 string and I just thought it sounded huge., I cant imagine what a 12 must be like.

I wish you still had that 8, Scott! That is one of the ones I have always been looking for, the B8S.

The 12 is a lot like the 8, but it sounds like a wall of sound, it fills space like you can't believe. I took mine out this weekend and it literally shook my insides. I barely had to touch the strings and it rang forever. AWESOME.

That's not the standard headstock for B12S, also has delux fretboard inlays. Custom order.

I have a black Hamer Chapparal, made in Taiwan.
All it does is collect dust. It sounds great and stays in tune quite well. Tuning it is a pain, and I don't think I want the headache of changing the strings again. Once I get a digital camera, I think I'll try Ebay. It was fun for a while, but I don't think it's for me.

I'm kinda dissapointed. This Musicvox company seems very unorganized. They still have not shipped this item which Matt Eichen claimed when I ordered was set up and ready to go out the door.

Oh well...
