The Beach Boys Are Rickenbacker-less!

Post by LenMinNJ »

I saw the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary concert when it passed through NJ, and got to talk with their co-music director Scott Totten, who also plays guitar on-stage between Alan Jardine and Bruce Johnston..

With a 13-piece band on stage for three hours, there wasn't a single Rickenbacker to be seen. Scott played a 12-string at one point (the opening to California Girls), but it wasn't a Rickenbacker. Of the many 6-strings being played, none were Rickenbackers. Jeff Foskett played a mandolin at one point and it too was not a Rickenbacker.

May I suggest that someone at Rickenbacker donate an instrument or two to Scott, Dave Marks Alan Jardine, Jeff Foskett or one of the backline musicians? Or perhaps a special bass to Brian Wilson? (Brian actually played bass for the encore.) It would be well-worth the marketing expense for the exposure.

These dudes can play whatever they want. Foskett owns lots of rare Ricks. They don't need a "donation".

Maybe they could use some encouragement, like an endorsement deal.

And Totten is not a wealthy guy. He might appreciate a new RIck 12-string. Or the other guitarist: Nicky Walusco.

I believe Mr. Foskett already has some deals in place.

Yeah, and on top of that, I gather that RIC doesn't need any more business, with the backlog and all. They certainly don't need business enough to pay for it..

That explains all the Epiphones and Gibsons he played. Haven't seen a Trini Lopez like that in many years.

Maybe Totten could use a deal? It's a shame to not see a single Rickenbacker.

A 360 (6 or 12) Carl Wilson would hurt this groups' stage presence one bit. :)
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I kind of like this CD cover from Foskett's import CD titled "Twelve & Twelve":

I heard somewhere that Foskett actually owns both 360 Wilson models, 6 and 12-string in fireglo, but I can't seem to find any pictures.

A CW 6 or 12 would be a nice, subtle tribute to Carl, especially on one of his signature songs like Darlin' or God Only Knows.

Carl played an Epiphone Riviera 12 in concert throughout the latter half of the '60's and beyond, so in a way, this is a tribute and is just as accurate as a Ric. Granted it would be great to see one.
