Is this really Squire and where does something like this isolated track come from? Says a lot for post-processing.

If this is what it takes to be a bass legend, every kid in Guitar Center on a Saturday morning has a shot.

Interesting you mention Dinosaur jr. I always wondered how come Lou Barlow was such an underated bass player. His playing on "you're living all over me" is fantastic (and pretty innovative).

Cinderella man, or any other track from A Farewell to Kings, being my favorite studio sound from Geddy and what I feel was his peak in that special sound.

Lou Barlow is always in my faves list....great style. He's been back to Ric over the last year or so after a time with a Fender Mike Dirnt bass.

Just as an aside, on 'You're Living All Over Me', it's not all Ric - he was still using the Gibson Grabber that he used on the first album on a fair bit of it.

I was really surprised when I read this - stuff like 'In A Jar' sounds very Ric, Lou said it was the Gibbo. :D

Love Pink.

Looks like a '70s 4001 (skunk stripe, Grovers?)

Squire's my go-to guy when I want to hear some bad-a$$ Rick tone.

The Yes Album
Fragile
Close To The Edge
Yessongs

Geddy Lee too, to a lesser degree. Great captures of his Rick tone on Hemispheres & Permanent Waves. Love the intro to Cyngus X-1, too.

(this isn't an answer to your query, Scott, but there it is for the record!)

That's Janis Tanaka, always known to play a Rick.
I think this pic was from back from when she was in the band L7.

Their first and second albums rock out, too, with a slightly different, grittier RM1999 tone that is wonderful all it's own. 8)

I bought the later CD of Fragile that included Yes' recording of Simon & Garfunkle's "America" which to me is a tour de force of Squire's Rick tone. It's kinduva jam in the middle, and perhaps pretentious, but what killer bass!
