That 350 is so cool. Makes me want to put an HB1 in the neck of my 360. . .

The 'red bass' was a surpise, and intriguing that that was the one Rick Rubin preferred for recording. Interesting that he mentioned '60s Ricks sound different than newer ones. I've found that as well (especially 12 strings) and wondered if it was just me!

Is that a Ric lapsteel? I've never seen anything like that

Very cool videos!
No mention of his mystery RIC that is in the Richard Smith Book - the 67 615 that someone reshaped and refined JG so it looked like a 325.
Perhaps he got rid of it when Rickenbacker made him that custom two pick up 350 with the wider neck.

Re: Petty & Campbell in Rolling Stone...
Definitely a cool interview. Thanks for the pointer...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Petty & Campbell in Rolling Stone...
Ditto, I love hearing Mike Campbell discuss RICs (and all guitars). He really understands each instrument and what it can do for him and how he can bring that out. Hope they have more sessions with him and/or Tom.

John -- thanks for posting this link for the Campbell interview about Rickenbackers. Definitely very cool !
Maybe this thread ought to be re-posted over to the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers sector ?

Thanks for the link, Jake. That's a great live video, too--the boys are a class act.
If it is to be, it is up to me.
