Nut width ? 2003 4003
Anyone know what the nut width would be for a 4003 made in 2003? The seller says 1.5". I might buy it if that was true but I'm thinking those are more like 1.75.

I think they are generally 1 & 11/16'' with some variance here and there. Sometimes I see Rics--from all periods, including up to 2010--with nut widths off of that spec by 1/16'' in either direction. My 2010 and 1976 are both 1 & 5/8''; my friend's 2007 is 1 & 3/4''. If the seller is adamant it's 1 & 1/2'', have him take a photo.
More than nut width I think the early 2000s period was known for chunky neck profiles.

With me it's all about reaching the E string so width is very important. Love that triple toaster avatar photo. Is that a 4001S?

That is the aforementioned 1976 (4001FL):

Glad you like it! In a lot of ways it's one of the best basses I've owned, even though it came to me in fairly poor shape. With some TLC it's become a strong contender for my favorite bass.
