4001V63 Lefty PMC

Post by bugman »

Came across one (I dont have it but am seriously contemplating it) and wondering what they are going for. Its a lefty RIC 4001V63 with the flipped headstock like McCartneys in fireglo. Owner says he got it in 2001 , Is this the one they refer to as the PMC ? Thanks for any input

Sounds like. PMC (stood for Paul McCartney without saying so) was an option available on lefty 4001V63. Supposedly, most of them ended up on the Japanese market where collectors and players are a bit more enthusiastic about authenticity. My feeling is that the enthusiasm for it helped convince RIC to create the C64/C64S models that came a year or so later.

I wish their enthusiasm would have allowed them to continue to make the V63 the "right" way.

+1!

I don't know, we're pretty enthusiastic around here, or is it that we're more critical?

I would like to see an accurate repro of the RM1999, but I know it would be a real pain in the arse for RIC.

Well, they did do that 1999 model a couple of years ago and the only non accurate things were the truss rods, two piece neck and the RIHS...
Whilst I prefer the old trussrod system the other things are surely an improvement...

Not sure about the Japanese 1999's but my US version has a one piece neck.

What should you expect to pay for one of these?

Well in Australia I'd be placing it between $2500- $3000 but the market is funny here, you might end up only pulling $2000 for it...

Hi Geoff...I'd watch that auction, that is a great price to snag it at....I would think that $2500 for one of those would be a decent price, not too many were made. The one that Paul posted a pic of used to be mine, it was a '99...here is a closer pic of it.

These were available to all dealers, not just Japan---according to a post John Hall made a few years back, just stealthy in making it known.....prior to '99 they had an option for a "PMC Headstock" but from '99-on a little-known model all it's own.

When were these basses made????

I think I found the one mentioned, on Ebay, but the picture is so bad it is hard to tell if it IS the PMC.
The Ebay ad says it's from 2001........were these made then???????

I would LOVE to have one....it's the closest I'll ever get to having an RM1999.

Oh, and the guy has it listed as a 4003......NOT a 4001V63.
