Rickenbacker 350V63

After thinking about this and looking on you tube at demos of the 350V63 I
love the way the guitar sound I'm going back to a 350V63 Rickenbacker.
In the past I've had a 360, 360/12. 330, 350, and two 355JL and today
I have a fender Telecaster and it's a good guitar but I can't get that
Rickenbacker sound from it. There are a couple of things that I could
do one is to keep my Tele till I save my money then trade the guitar
in and pay the rest in cash. This is the other I could sell the Tele and
not have a guitar and save the money or I could just save and keep
the Tele and have two guitars. One of the local music stores is a
Rickenbacker dealer so they can always get me one. What do you
guys think I miss not haveing a Rickenbacker 350V63 and the
great sounds from that guitar. My love for that guitar goes back to
1964 seeing JL in AHDN.

That's a toughie Lou. I guess it comes down to how much you like the Tele, vs how much you like 350V63s, and how badly you want a 350V63 (badly enough to trade in, or sell the Tele, to get the 360V63). If it's option #2, then say bye-bye to the Tele (I got my 360 in that manner - an unexpected bonus from work {that was not enough by itself, to pay for a 360], and trading in a Fender Thinline Jaguar [I didn't like the pickups, and being that it's semi-rare, it didn't seem right to ditch the stock pickups, on what would be a collectibe guitar some day], and Gretsch resonator guitar). But think hard about it. You don't want to end up regretting getting rid of the Tele. If you decide to keep the Tele, you could always look for a used 350V63. The lower cost of a used one, would make it easier to save for, than a new one.

If I was in your shoes, I would keep the Tele, save your money, and buy a 350V63 when you get the money. I have two Teles and a blueburst 350V63 and like all of them for different reasons.

The one with the most guitars wins!

Lou, the joy of playing a guitar is unequalled. I would not be without one. Most of my Rickenbackers are used and I have never been disappointed. I would keep the Tele and find a used 350.

Guys, after reading your what you wrote I'm just going to save for the 350V63
and keep the Telecaster. Having two different style guitars is what I like and
they can cover a lot of sounds. I've checked E Bay and I see some 350V63 and
the Ruby one looks real good. Like I said we do have a local Rickenbacker
dealer who has some 360 and 330 in stock and also a 350V63. This will take
a little time and thanks for your help

Sounds good Lou. My 360 is a used 2006, and it's a fantastic guitar. By the same token, I also have a couple of different (from a Ric) type guitars:, a black paisley Tele, and a Gretsch Country Club. I also still intend to get another 7-string down the road (I guess I'll alwys be a bit of a metal chick ). If you're leaning towards the 350 at your local shop, ask if the shop has a layaway plan. I've bought more than a few guitars that way.

I will never be without a Tele ( in fact I have three of them .. and like children: I just can't find one a "favorite" , nor could I part with one )

that said.. Teles are indeed plentiful.. zillions out there from high end.. to partscasters..

If the Tele you have is special.. then keep it. it's hard to replace "magic" that a guitar sometimes has...

If it's not special.. then a Tele is something you can always acquire.. if say.. a real opportunity should arise re: getting a special RIC.

I always give this advice.. but I note my guitar collection grows.. as I can never really execute the part where I get rid of a guitar.. to fund another..

Guys, this may sound strange but when I bought my Telecaster it was used
and it was mint. Just to let you know it's a 3 Tone Sunburst Alder body and
a Maple neck. Also very easy to play now with the 350V63 that guitar has
a sound of it's own Playing that guitar brings me back to when I was
younger and the British Invasion and where I live you don't see any bands
using a Rickenbacker 350V63 why is that I don't think other players
realize that the 350V63 can be used for any style of music it's like they
don't see the whole picture. One thing that a member of the group that
I played in said it doesn't fit the image and I thought I don't care what
they think if it's good enough for JL it's good enough for me

Yuppers! I've used Rics for heavy rock (some of it VERY metal), since the 90s (when I bought my first one [a Jetglo 360] in 1995). Believe me, with the right amp settings, Rics can do any thing from jangle, to punk, to power pop, to metal (I have a clip on Soundclick to prove it http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11783294 )

Ellen I changed my mind i put my Telecaster on Craig List and if
it sells I'll use that money for the 350V63. Should it not sell then
as I said I'll just save. One other thing I don't have an Amp so I
have to save for that also.

IIRC, you like clean, Fender tones, ala the Twin Reverb. If you you don't have a bundle, maybe look into the Fender Frontline series amps. They can be picked up stupid cheap, and while they are solid state, they do some very nice cleans. Another thought is Fender's Mustang series of modeling Amps. I had a Mustang II for a short time (I got rid of it, because it couldn't cut it with a loud drummer), and it was a nice sounding amp. The Mustang III is supposed to be quite a bit louder (a 150 watt 2x12 combo). Because many players are sick of lugging 100 lb amps, you can occasionally find older Twin Reverbs for about $500-$600.

I use a Vox AC30 and a Fender Blues deluxe 3 with my two 325 and the other guitars. I like the clean sound i can get from the Fender and i think it is not very far from the Fender Amp that John uses in the early Hamburg days.
So go and look for the Fender Blues Junior de luxe or the Vox AC 30 (but beware, the vox is heavier and you need to spend much more bucks for it !)
