Well if you're buying a 12 string, buy a double bound 12 string- you won't regret it; the double bound body makes the guitar sound better. . . .360girl wrote:You're depressing me!It was asked of me in my 330 or 360 thread, if I might get a 360/12 down the road. There is no reason to ever be bored.
...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

+1. As the '80's wore on, it became quite apparent that the quality of content changed and I dropped my subscription then.artisan4 wrote:Guitar Player was best during the Jim Crockett era in the mid to late 1970s. I still subscribe but Vintage Guitar is superior as well as Guitar and Bass Magazine.

I thought Joe Gore was a pretty good editor. But since he left, it has been one rehash after another. I don't know what target audience they're going after; it's not us, that's for sure. It doesn't seem to be younger players either, since they put the same dozen or so oldies on the cover month after month.
One more thought on the reviews, GP only reviews the gear manufacturers are willing to send them. I don't think that's how RIC does its business.

Clint has it pretty close. I participated in several GP shootout reviews in the '90's as a demo guy for Carvin--their artist relations guy at the time was a friend of mine, and apparently it was more cost-effective to hire me, since I lived in the Bay Area anyway, to come to San Francisco, than to fly up a guitar player from Southern California (my friend was a bass player, and they needed a guitar player for the reviews). As I recall, we did the 50-watt combo amp shootout, the 100-watt amp head one, Tele-style guitars, and guitars under $500. Most of the manufacturers they contacted sent stuff for review, but a few didn't, and there hangs the tale. With Rickenbacker selling everything they can produce, they may not have had anything to send that wasn't already spoken for. As iconic as the Ric 12 is, I can't imagine that GP didn't contact them, but I suppose it's possible. I actually don't recall ever seeing a review of a Rickenbacker product in GP, and I've been reading the mag since the first issue in '67. And no, I didn't participate in the 12-string review--my friend hasn't worked at Carvin in years.

I used to suscribe to GP way back when and we laughingly referred to it as "Gibson and Fender Player Magazine"jfine wrote:I actually don't recall ever seeing a review of a Rickenbacker product in GP, and I've been reading the mag since the first issue in '67.
