Rickenbacker Bass Book

Reading older threads I see where Vincent Gallo was working on a bass book.
Did it ever get published and if so is it still available?

I searched Amazon and a few other sites but could not find anything.

I was noticing that too on that revived thread about Chris Squire's 4001. I think if it had come out,Mr. Gallo would have mentioned it here. (lots of GUARANTEED sales on that one!)

Vincent stated he was going to write a book on early Rick basses (I presume from the '50s and '60s only). This was several years ago, and I've heard nothing since. I attempted communication with him for possible use of photos of some of his collection for my book, but have never been granted a reply. I think focusing on the first 10 years or so of Rickenbacker basses would be a tough sell to publishers and potential buyers, but these days you can easily self publish anything and produce as few books as you desire. I'm open to helping him with his book if he is willing to help with mine. What do you say, Vincent?

I'm going whole hog on my book, though; the complete field guide to ALL Rick basses from the beginning to today. I know, I've been promising it for years, too, but my book is not just a pipe dream. My deadline with Hal Leonard/Backbeat Books is 1 December, and I figure that the book will be available in spring 2013. You can see sample pages at: http://www.rocks-bottom.com

Paul, your book looks great but I wish the sample pages would enlarge enough to actually see something (and I have a 30" monitor!)
Hope you will keep us informed cause I will definitely be down for one!

Thanks, Stephen. Once I get the book to HL/BB, it will be up to them to sell and deliver the book. I believe an electronic version is also planned. I won't be driving around hawking a trunk load of books at guitar shows, and I'm going to be allotted only a small number of books that I will give to a select few major contributors and in exchange for key photos and such. I'm not going to get rich on this. When the book comes out, though, it should become readily available through book stores, Amazon, etc.

Do you mean the one with the gal? She's holding what was probably one of the very first Rick basses. It has the output jack on the face of the pickguard. The gal is cute, but unnamed. But what other guitar book has made use of the word "crinoline"?

Paul,

You should consider self-publishing, it cuts out the middle men and really isn't all that hard.
There's a wealth of info on it online.

I marketed it through my little website and then eventually on fleaBay, sold out of books and had to have a re-print done.

Thanks, Greg. Already considered that and was well along to doing that when HL/BB regained interest. Now I'm under contract with them and I'll be better off. They'll be able to distribute and sell thousands of books more than I could. This is, as they say in baseball, "the show."
