Two 1966 toasters on eBay

Post by ilan »

Here they are. Seller says they were pulled from a 460, and this is my post #460...

you guys do know that the new and old toaster pickups are identical ... the only difference is the old ones will be weaker and softer sounding due to the natural degaussing of the magnets ...

I did not know that. How does the scatterwound fit into the equation. I had a 97' 360V64 that I loved the sound of but have no idea what version of toasters were on it. I guess I need to be educated on all the versions. I do know that some toasters are taller than others, this I have seen.

Aren't the newer toasters a bit hotter than the old? I seem to recall JH saying that you could remove some of the winding from a moder toaster to make it sound like the older ones.

I measured about 5 or 6 toaster pickups ... they were all about the same ... one of the hottest ones was the one from my 1968 4001 ... but the old ones will transmit a weaker signal because the magnets get weaker with age ...

old and new toaster pickups are all scatterwound to 7.4k ohms ...

it is the modern high gains that have more windings than the old high gains ... you can unwind them to get the "vintage" tone ...

here's another one ... vintage strap buttons ... these are the same ones used until the mid 90's and the same as the mute pad screw ... you can buy brand new ones that are identical to these from a ric dealer or Ric ...

That guy relisted them this week. They first appeared for $99! Of course he did not get a single bid. I figured they would be worth $10 so I bid. He also had a wire harness that was first listed for over $200. Such a deal!
