Janglebox question

Post by Kyle »

I am thinking of getting a Janglebox sometime in the future - dont see the point in getting toasters if im not going the whole hog and getting the Janglebox to complete the sound.

Question is, which one do I go for, as there are a fair few - silver, black, 3 knob, 5 knob etc.?

I am just after something rather basic, to get that Byrds/Beatles sound, and especially 'The Waiting' by Tom Petty.

What do you guys suggest?

If you're wanting something that's basic and gets the job done, this is what you need:

It's the most affordable version, with all the bells and whistles of the famous original and is about as basic as they come.

Agree with Jake. If it's something basic you're after, I'd think either of the two-knob Jangleboxes (black or silver) will fit your needs. They have just a "gain" (volume) knob, an "attack" knob (compression) and a "bright" switch that is really great depending on what you're plugging your guitar into. I usually only activate "bright" if I'm DI'd into a mixer/board and it is perfect for that application or for livening up a really muddy sounding amp. The silver Janglebox is made overseas and is the cheapest option. It works just fine and is good quality.

Hi Kyle,

I agree with Jake and Simon that the silver import is the cheapest option, and, if I read the JangleBox website correctly, it has the added advantage of being compatible with pin-negative adapters (the original black pedal requires a pin-positive adapter). But when I was weighing my options two years ago, I decided not to cut corners on features and to spring for the (slightly) more expensive JB2, which is much more versatile and easy to use. I have never regretted that decision. The difference in price between the original black JangleBox and the JB2 is negligable (only $15.00 when you figure in the cost of a special pin-positive adapter for the original). The difference in price between the silver import and the JB2 is a substantial $90.00. But if you plan to keep the pedal for years and you want useful features that go far beyond mere bells and whistles, it's a wise investment. I've heard many stories here of players upgrading from the original to the JB2. Quite simply, the JB2 trumps every compressor out there (with the exception of the JB2 Byrds LE pedal). And it's well within the price range of other premium compressors like the four-knob Keeleys. Invest in a JB2, and I promise you won't be disappointed! 8)
