Ric 330/12 as a 6
hello all,
New member and and new 330/12 owner here. I'm sure this topic has been discussed countless times in the past, but in my searching I've yet to find a definitive answer. Is the neck on a 330/12 essentially the same as a regular 330/6? Are the necks the same thickness/width/etc.? Both guitars appear to be the same other than hardware, right? Can a 330/12 be converted to a 6 stringer? Thanks!

Welcome Adam!
I've wondered the same thing too. Sure - you can remove the 'octave' strings and leave 6-strings, but wouldn't the position of those strings on the nut and the bridge be positioned slightly left of center compared to a guitar that started life as 6-string?

Yeah, but I challenge you to truly tell the difference in a blind test. The spacing is the same (for most 12-string models), so they're just moved "up" a millimeter or so.

Does everyone concur? The neck and body of a 330/12 is the exact same as a 330/6 without the hardware?

Yeah - I suspect you're right.collin wrote:Yeah, but I challenge you to truly tell the difference in a blind test. The spacing is the same (for most 12-string models), so they're just moved "up" a millimeter or so.

Yes, I concur (as much as any two Rickenbackers are exactly the same).danoadam wrote:Does everyone concur? The neck and body of a 330/12 is the exact same as a 330/6 without the hardware?

Adam, they're identical.
The only difference is the extra hardware and the longer headstock on the 12-string. Neck profile is absolutely identical to 6-string models of the same year. That's one of the beauties of the Rickenbacker 12-string, you don't need to deal with a huge neck like you would on a Gibson/Gretsch/Fender Electric 12.

What about the depth and thickness of the neck? I know the fretboard width is the same.
