There's actually a wood grain of truth in this.

More than 20 years ago, quality European spruce for the tops of acoustic guitars was becoming very scarce. I used to spend a great deal of time in Switzerland (truly the land of Rickenbacker . . .) and had observed a number of 150 year old plus chalets being carefully dismantled. These were made primarily from native Picea abies spruce and, obviously, very well seasoned.

I did make an inquiry about buying some of this lumber but as it turns out, virtually all of this wood was already being recycled primarily for high-end architectural uses and much too expensive as compared to existing spruce stocks and other species.

Bottom line- no chalets have been harmed in the making of any Rickenbacker guitar.

John, thanks for giving us the long and the short of it.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

"Being from Europe I just can say normal wooden houses/ski lodges are made of spruce wood, normally. The old half-timbered houses are made of oak. Maple would be too expensive.
100% clarification only can be done by RIC - as usual."

Spruce, spruce, I wrote about spruce!

Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).

Sorry for the long delay. Thanks for the welcome, and I'm glad you all like my first post.
And thank you John Hall for your response, I have a bet to collect on.
