73 4001 necks vs. 4003 necks

Hello folks,
thinking about selling my 73 4001 and purchasing a 4003. How do the necks compare in width, pitch and depth? I played on a 78 4001 and compared it to the 73. NO comparison. The 73's neck was a lot narrower on the backside and narrower depthwise. Are they similar to the 73 or 78? Thanks

What year 4003 are you aiming for? I would compare the neck profile on my 73 4001 to be 'C" shaped while the necks on my 2011-4003 and my Shadow to be more "D" shaped. Thinner (front to back) and shallower than the 73. The neck profile has changed a bit over the years. The neck on my Blackstar more closely resembles the neck on my 73 4001.

It depends of the years. The neck on my 90 4003 is pretty similar to my 76 4001. But the one on my 2011 is a different beast. As described above it has a D profile, larger and thicker. Mid 2000 will be slightly bigger than the new ones (I think...).

My view on necks... one hour and you just get used to it.

BTW, if you sell your 4001 and it is a mapleglo with checkerboard, just let me know!!!
