4003...Where is the CB
Hey Ric Folks,
Whatever happened to that distinctive checker binding? I want to request that it comes back. Really stylish!

They still have it, it's used on the 381 and a few other things on occasion (usually one-offs)...but sadly no longer on the basses.

Re: 4003...Where is the CB
RIC stopped applying it to (most) basses in 1973. However, it pops up now an then: The 4003 "Shadow" made for Guitar Center stores in 1986 had checker binding inside black strip binding. The recording 4002 basses had checker binding, also inside black strip binding. They were made from 1975 to '85. In 2003, a special order for 4003 to Japanese distributors were fitted with checker binding. You can also find checker binding on the 60 4004LK "Lemmy" basses made between 2001 and 2006. Checker binding was also an optional item on price sheets from 1981 through '83, so those who wanted to pay extra for it could have it added. No idea how many were made, but they do appear every once in a while.

Re: 4003...Where is the CB
..... CB, my favorite accent on a RIC bass......they are soooo close with the newer basses. My 09 is almost perfect! My 09 jetglo now has a black pickguardian pickguard and a mid 80's black trc and along with the full inlays , looks gorgeous.....BUT , CB would make it perfect imho.....
I bought some of the aftermarket cb from an ebay seller a few months ago, but have yet to go the extra step....
I'd much rather buy a new 4003 from RIC with CB already on it

Even if it were only available as an extra cost upgrade,it would be nice, but also it would likely throw a monkey wrench into the factory's production runs.....
Re: 4003...Where is the CB
It is a nice touch!
