4001v63 Good News/Bad News

Post by highway_star »

I located a v63 Mapleglo at a reasonable price. The only issue that has been disclosed to me is a mark on the back side of the bass under the neck heel. The owner states that the mark came from the latex on a guitar stand. It's a tan-colored mark and is about 1/4" H x 2" W. He's reduced the price accordingly (several hundred lower than what others are selling for). Is a mark like that very difficult to remove? If not, what would be a ballpark estimate to remove it? And given that the rest of the bass in excellent condition, is it worth pursuing, especially since the mark isn't visible from the front?

It may be as a result of silicone in the latex from the stand, if it is then it's gone through the finish to the wood below.

I'm not sure if it can be removed from the wood, however to even attempt it you're going to have to remove the finish at that area. If it's not that bad, and considering it's on the back, then if you can live with it then go for it.

If you're going to try to remove and clean it up, then when you do that you could swap it over to Fireglo !!!

I wouldn't worry about that mark, Ron. I think we've seen that bass here on the forum before and it's cosmetic only. $1400-1500 would be a good price, I believe...

Well it gets better. I found one locally that I've played and the owner has agreed to sell. It isn't much more and it is MINT!!!!!!!! At least this way,I know what I'm getting. Thanks for all your help and I'll post info once I pick it up tonight.
