65 300 series on CL in my area

Post by Rickenbarry »

I am not the owner of this instrument but I could drop by and check it out for a forumite who is interseted. It's def a 65 by the serial number listed. I think maybe a 315? Sorry, I don't know RIC guitars like I do basses. $5k asking price, here it is:

http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/m ... 28252.html

Also a 79 4001 for $2200 with no pics in my area on CL

http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/m ... 54324.html

It would be good to see them both end up in a good home!

Let me know if I can help. I'll cross post in the Bass forum.

The F-hole leads me to believe it's a 1997 model (not a 330 model), released for the most part only in Britain, as I understand it.

Did not check when I posted but it's in the registry as a 330...like I said I know little of RIC guitars. Just thought if someone wanted a close up inspection, they could give me a list and I could check it out for them.

That is a sweet looking guitar. In ad, original owner states he bought it new in '65 (presumably in the US), so it's a 330S, with S meaning "special." If the same guitar had been shipped by RIC to Rose Morris distributor in UK, it would be a 1997 RM.

If it was a Rose Morris, it would not have an R-tailpiece either (would have Accent).

This is a pretty clean looking '65 330S, and fairly priced, IMO. :)

Would that not make it a 1997a? I thought 1997 models did not automatically come with the Accent vibrato (thought you're right about the R tailpiece).

All of the model 1997 and model 1998 six string guitars exported to Rose Morris in England and Australia from 1964 to 1967 had Accents as standard. It was never an option to have an R tailpiece factory fitted on these Rose Morris exports so none of them would have originally had one (although of course some may have been since retrofitted). The Rose Morris 12 string export guitar (model 1993 in the Rose Morris catalogue) initially had a trapeze tailpiece (up to the middle/Q3 of 1964) and then had the R tailpiece (from from the latter part of 1964 through 1965).

If this guitar was originally fitted with this R tailpiece from new, it was definitely never exported to Rose Morris and would have been a US domestic special order with the f-hole....hence 330 "S".

This particular guitar looks in great condition for a 1965...if it were in the UK I'd be all over it....Collin????
