Even more book progress

Post by bassduke49 »

I've been slowly feeling my way with InDesign, but have reconstructed and added to the first two chapters of the book, the 4000 and the 4001. I've been able to take advantage of several "block out" photos of beautiful old Ricks to run across a spread, including Peter Levett's lefty 21-fretter, the Stu Cook 4001 (CCR), and the Nov. 1961 transitional "4001" that was up for auction a year and a half ago. I'm still awaiting a "corrected" manuscript from the publisher, but I'll keep the design soft enough to make room for any publisher's changes. Still don't know the publishing schedule other than my 1 December deadline. I still think it will probably be spring of 2013; you know, a few months after the end of days.

If Madison is still standing after December, I'll drive to Cedarburg to get my copy signed.

Well, it turns out that due to a mixup, I didn't need to have my manuscript edited by the publisher as first thought. After waiting more than a month for its return, I e-mailed the publisher to find that my contact no longer works there. I am now dealing with the group publisher (Hal Leonard Performing Arts Publishing Group). He was a bit confused by what had been setup. He said that since I am providing the book press ready, why was I asking for a copy edit? I told him my previous contact there asked me to submit it. Oops. It turns out I waited for naught. So now, I can get back to building the book. They want to see a couple of chapters to make sure what I do is technically compatible. I'll be sending in stuff tomorrow (Friday, 28 Sept.).

I asked them about the schedule and budget. If I get the complete book to them without needing technical fixes in the electronic files by mid-January, the book will be on schedule for release on 9 July 2013. Right now, it looks like 144 pages for $24.99 (I didn't write down the price, so don't hold me to that!). I'm going to have a busy autumn!

Good luck, Paul. I'll be buying a copy for sure. Will it be hitting stores like Books A Million or Barnes & Noble?

Hey everyone, please notice that the release date is JULY 9 2013. No early Christmas for this year, sorry. The price shown is a surprise to me as HL/BB told me that list would be $24.99. Amazon is discounting off of $19.99 to $13.59. I'm not sure how that is going to work. Right now, the book is likely to be 144 pages instead of the stated 128, so that will further work against such a deep discount. Hope the publisher has told them prices are subject to change. I don't "need" to make money on this, but I don't want to lose any, either.
