660/12 neck width

Post by Medicus1963 »

Hi,

Due to Rickenbacker specifications the 660/12 neck is 3mm wider than the regular width of Rick 12 strings.
To any experienced owner of this guitar: Is this difference really that big in your feelings ?
My hands cannot manage the other narrow necks !
Any help is needed !
Tahnks

Yes, for those who have played both, it is a significant difference. But the preference of one or the other depends on the person.

Peter, like Scott said : it's significant, I have a 660/12 TP and it plays very easy. A recent thread on the same subject here:

Thank you for your help,

Then it would be better for me to have the 660/12, because i have big fingers who are really short (in german : Wurstfinger!)
I already tried a 360/12 and always touched the neighbor strings !

The 660/12 would be an excellent choice for you Peter. They also sound and look great! Can't wait to get my old one back.

It would be absolutely wonderful if a 12-string would be made for mass production with a 660 neck on a 360 body. Having had a 660/12, the extra-wide neck feels like it should be on a bigger-bodied guitar. I know that some prototypes have been made, and I'd love to try one - I'd bet that it's awesome.

Has anyone here tried one?

Color me confused....but I just don't understand the need/want for a wide-neck 12-string. For me, I like a wider 6-string (like a Gibson neck) that gives you more real estate for string bending and more to hold onto, but for 12-strings, I like the necks real small and easy to grab for chords.

I have average-sized hands, but I can point out many iconic Rickenbacker players who successfully played the vintage (not even larger Reissue) neck width with no complaints...

Anyways, I digress...
