Need help Id'ing Rickenbacker bass

Post by Kopfjaeger »

HELP!! I find myself in need of a bit of assistance!! Can anyone help me ID this bass? it looks like a Rickenbacker and the TRC says it's a Rickenbacker but it has many differences that are throwing me for a loop? It has 4001 characteristics but a 4001 on steroids. Is it a "Fakenbacker"??? If so, is it worth "picking up"?

It sounds awesome and feels like it was made for me. Please let me know what you think. :D

Thanks in advance!

I'll give you $100 for it right now, sight unseen, so long as you can verify it is all original.

Thanks all!! Just a little good natured humor!! Of course I know what it is. I was very privileged to add this awesome specimen to my stable. I've been pondering this particular acquisition since march!! I got cold feet and backer out but I thought about it nearly everyday since then. I was in a better financial position several weeks ago after emailing the owner, we decided to use Pick of the Ric's as a "meeting" place. In all honesty, It was love at first sight!! When I picked it up and plugged it into Chris' Ampeg stack, I was smitten by the tone it put out and ease at which it played. It growls harder than any Rickenbacker I have ever played and the neck..... Man, it is fast as hell!!

Thanks Dave, my new bestest friend, :D and thanks Chris, for all your help!!

CJ, when I'm playing her, I'M the fake!! :D It's an entirely new ball game playing this bass. The pups capture everything, good and bad. I need to clean my technique a bit when I play her.

Greg,

A forum member owned her and she was well cared for and loved! I'm told for quite some time she was his "go to" bass and has been gigged often but she is showroom new looking. She has been refinished by Dale Fortune but I don't know when.

I am a lucky man, indeed!

Congrats, Sept! That is a beautiful bass, and I'm pretty sure most of the bassists on the forum are quite envious right now. I know I am!
