OGD (Old Guitar Day)

Post by Danotron »

I know a lot of people like to post NGD for the day when they get a new guitar; but I don't think that exactly fit here as this guitar is older than I am.

Picked up a "new" (to me anyway) vintage guitar from a fellow Forumite and took a few pictures with my cell phone. Better pictures to follow but this guitar has been posted about before. It's a 1961 365 that some people refer to as a "New Style Capri". It was the first year of the (in my opinion) most famous Rick guitar body shape.

Anyway, I put it next to my '65 365 (OS) and it's pretty cool to see the differences. There are the obvious ones, (like the gold plastic parts, square neck heel, accent "by Paul", and "oven" knobs), and more subtle ones, (like the Firego shading pattern -which is exaggerated by the camera flash , headstock size, size of the "body horns", neck feel, fretboard wood, and overall sound). I'm sure I'll uncover more as I get to know the '61 better.

Anyway, I promise better pictures and a full group shot soon but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy these :)

This thread will surely prove that it's difficult to beat an OS....and even more difficult to beat two! 8)

Thanks Guys!

Yeah, Collin and I have a "symbiotic" guitar thing going.

He keeps feeding me rare old guitars that he finds and buys, and I keep feeding him cash to find and buy new ones!

Both of my guitars in the above picture came from Collin, plus my Lightshow. The '65 has been my "Holy Grail" Rick since I bought it.

I know what Collin bought and why he sold the '61 to me. I've seen the pictures, but that's up to him to reveal. I'm sure he'll post when the times right 8)

In the meantime my collection grows stronger and stronger.....................

And yes Eddie, that is a very cool Byrd model :)

Hey Dan, Collin is really keeping us in suspenders. :( Now wait a minute! Do you think if I could morph these two into one I might just be gettin' close :?: :?:

Congrats, Dan! Remember when I tried to go home with it when I left Gary's back in August? You called me out when I headed towards the door. I remember the neck was to die for. Your collection keeps getting better and better.
