Hi sean, this is the one zero faults sounds fantastic. this was a last minute replacement by the uk rickenbacker rep, i had purchased a midnight blue but there were problems with it, the rep then stepped in and saved the day with the mapleglo. cheers

Congrats. Beautiful bass!
Is RIC still making them with two piece necks?

Nice to see an old familiar face around here.
Re: NEW 4003 MAPLEGLO 2012
i have owned Rickenbacker basses over the last 34 years, i must say the standard of production on this bass is just outstanding, and the tone from a new instrument is hard to believe, i compared it to what was my fav 4003 ever and it wins hands down a much thicker tone with the Rickenbacker twang in there too. amazing bass!!!!
Re: NEW 4003 MAPLEGLO 2012
Excellent. The new ones really are a great lookers and all those old features too just great, could Checker binding be next
Re: NEW 4003 MAPLEGLO 2012
the standard has even improved since last year!!!i did not expect a new bass to sound as good as a matured 4003, the new mapleglo is really heavy too, that may have something to do with the excellent tone. fit and finish 10/10. and the most important thing to me is it feels right, neck is just spot on for thickness, the caribbean rosewood fingerboard is just incredible looking. worth every penny!!!

Hi George, geofio wrote:just purchased a new 4003 mapleglo 2012 , stunning looking and sounding bass , great set up out the box just changed the strings and adjusted the treble pick up and that was it felt at home on it straight away. the bass was manufactured 3 weeks ago and it was delivered from the rickenbacker uk rep. fantastic.
Just for curiosity, what strings did you put on it and what was it about the stock strings that you didn't like?
I've recently bought a brand new 4003 MG and I intend on putting Roto 66's on it but only when the stock one's start to lose their brightness. I must admit the stock Ric strings do sound nice, smooth sort of a sound but I'm looking to get the sound I got out of my 4001 which had Roto's on it. Just wondered why you thought the stock strings were such that you changed them right away?
I do hope I will be able to re-create the 4001 sound on my 4003 and that the change in strings will help me achieve this, the 4003 does seem to be a totally different sort of animal though with a thicker and fuller sound (regardless of the cap).

Hi steve, i just thought the stock strings sounded very tame to be honest, either the rotosounds or these will give your bass a very bright sound http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 ... 02_s00_i01, The Daddario might be just too bright at first but they die down in a few days anyway, to just a bright sounding string. cheersGeorge
Re: NEW 4003 MAPLEGLO 2012
Yes, I know what you mean abouth the stock strings, they are nice sounding but very 'mellow' if that's the right word, I want the sort of biting edge that Roto's give you and that I am familar with on the 4001.geofio wrote:Hi steve, i just thought the stock strings sounded very tame to be honest, either the rotosounds or these will give your bass a very bright sound http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 ... 02_s00_i01, The Daddario might be just too bright at first but they die down in a few days anyway, to just a bright sounding string. cheersGeorge
I love D'Addario's and use them on my Jazz Basses and Sandberg Cali. I'm not sure how they would be on my Ric although I would obviously be already used to the feel of them. My hands don't get particularly sweaty so all my strings seem to last quite a while, regardless of make.
Before I buy some Roto's I might try putting an old set on to see what the difference is like with them.
