Re: Sir Paul's Rickenbacker Bass
I wish Paul would get a brand new Rickenbacker and play it with his band.
Re: Sir Paul's Rickenbacker Bass
Doesnt Paul have a "first generation" lefty 4004 CII? I think I read that here somewhere.

Yes. That one would be rare, a lefty 4004C.cheyenne wrote:Doesnt Paul have a "first generation" lefty 4004 CII? I think I read that here somewhere.

I've never been a fan of the Hofner. And I wish he'd pull out the Ric. I did see a report from his Paul Is Live tour that Paul used the Ric on soundchecks. I imagine he's got it cooling these days.

I think has the first 4004C but not the first production 4004C.

I like the checker binding on your bass John.

Re: Sir Paul's Rickenbacker Bass
I got talking to three of Macca's band on a train last year. I asked if they thought he'd ever play the Rickenbacker live again. One of them (the blond guitarist, I think) said he really wanted Paul to play the Ric but that his guitar tech always grumbled that it was too complicated because of the stereo or whatever. The drummer said Macca got a new Ric to play on the Driving Rain LP but that he was disappointed with the sound and so he didn't use it. I'd like to see him use the Ric because he played much funkier lines on Wings Over America than he does now on the Hofner, though maybe that was more down to his mood and not the bass. They were really nice and seemed pleased to chat.

Oh, who knows for sure. His original Rick (a 1964 4001S) doesn't have "stereo" unless it was added sometime later. His fretless likely does have "Rick-O-Sound."

Just reporting, roughly, what his guitarist said. The main point was that the guitarist would like him to play the Rickenbacker but that the guitar tech wasn't keen.
4004?
Don't know. They just said it was a new Rickenbacker.

Re: Sir Paul's Rickenbacker Bass
Actually, I was being diplomatic when I said Macca was 'disappointed' in the new Rickenbacker's sound. The way they put it was much more emphatic.

My recollection was it was the 4001C64S.jps wrote:4004?seanfarrell68 wrote:...Macca got a new Ric to play on the Driving Rain LP but that he was disappointed with the sound and so he didn't use it..

Re: Sir Paul's Rickenbacker Bass
It was the C64S that John Hall delivered to him which was used on the Linda McCartney story a while back. It was a prototype. Paul called Rick to have then send one over whie recording Driving Rain I believe. It is used on one song Axis??
