Binding is the white edging around the body and along the edges of the neck.
The "skunk stripe" is a locally used term to refer to a strip of dark wood (the type of wood is "shedua") that runs the length of the instrument in the center. This can be seen on instruments with a transparent finish, but is not really visible on a black (JetGlo) instrument.
Here is a picture that shows the "skunk stripe":

Yep, that bass is really me. Bought it 25 year ago when a student instead of paying my rent (cuz i was so enfatuated with the deal) and got kicked out of my place (wich turned out to be a great move). I've tried others from time to time, 5 strings, fretless etc etc but i alway come back to this one, its just so fun to play.....don't think i would ever sell it, would be like ripping an arm off....
And thanks guys, i'm now sure its a sept '77 JG...

Hey somebody registered my bass a few weeks back. I don't have access to modify and some of the info is wrong.....How can we fix this...???
Re: My 4001
Send a PM to "admin" or "gibsonlp" and they take care of it...bernieflyer wrote:Hey somebody registered my bass a few weeks back. I don't have access to modify and some of the info is wrong.....How can we fix this...???

Yeah, I am not real fond of these guys who feel they have to add EVERY Rick they come across, on ebay, craigslist, or where ever they find them, to the register. Some are even pretty aggressive about collecting serial numbers so they can add these "collected instruments" to the register. I think the OWNER of these instruments should be the ones adding to the register, what you just came across is a perfect example why I feel this way.bernieflyer wrote:Hey somebody registered my bass a few weeks back. I feel this way, too. And there's a lot of just plain wrong info in there. Wrong designators, impossible serial numbers, crazy colors, etc. I'm going to offer to help clean it up once I get done with my current project.

Re: My 4001
I would venture a guess that some of the "collected" instrument owners might just not want their bass in the register.....
Re: My 4001
That is perfectly valid, too.johnallg wrote:I would venture a guess that some of the "collected" instrument owners might just not want their bass in the register.....

Re: My 4001
Mr "bassduke", i would sugest sending a request to all registered owners to review their items details and if no answer within a certain delay, deleting it or give it an "non verified" kinda tag....or at least some way of trying to get some input from current owners. This would give this register more acuracy & Credibility....(sounds like a new topic).....
Re: My 4001
That would kind-of bother me too, Jeff. I feel that when I get a Rick bass, I want to register it (to be honest I don't even know how to register), Its all part of the hype and excitement of getting a new instrument.jps wrote:Yeah, I am not real fond of these guys who feel they have to add EVERY Rick they come across, on ebay, craigslist, or where ever they find them, to the register. That said, I do appreciate the vast amount of knowledge in the register.
Re: My 4001
If someone registered a bass of mine here without my knowledge or consent, I'd be really mad about it. That's as nice as I can state it within the rules of the forum.

Re: My 4001
My 4004Cii FG and 430 were both already in the register when I got them. It did take the fun out of putting them in myself, but all it took was a PM to Peter and it made them mine. Then to personalize them, I added the pics I took.
I'm sure if someone didn't want their instrument in the registry, all it would take is a PM to Peter, but having an instrument in the registry is potential help if the instrument is stolen.

JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
