Richard Barone
Great shot here. Richard known mostly for his work with the Bongos and solo efforts recorded by Tony Visconti. Proud to call him a friend
Re: Richard Barone
I'm a more recent fan of the Bongo's, and would love to catch them live in NJ! If I ever am down there when they are playing, I will make an effort to go.
Re: Richard Barone
It was Richard who inspired me to get a Rickenbacker. Of course I was a fan of The Beatles, The Who, and The Byrds but as a kid I just sort of gravitated to whatever the local guitar scene was. I think it was at a Bongos show that the light went off in my head that I should check one of those things out for myself. And at that point I only knew I wanted the "one shaped like Pete Townshend's", that was all I knew about Rickenbackers, which wasn't much! It seems like Richard had a Mapleglo 330 in the Bongos...is that correct?

Re: Richard Barone
Cool photo. It's actually a 340 model (a 330 with three pickups instead of two) and it appears to have Van Ghent tuners on it which narrows down its date of manufacture somewhat.
If it is to be, it is up to me.
Re: Richard Barone
That's interesting Mitch, because Rob Norris's use of a P-bass made Donna and Dan ask me to go Fender, and not use a Ric...slightly ironic.
I always associated Richard with using a Rickenbacker although, I'm not 100% that he used that particular one with the Bongos.

Re: Richard Barone
I think Rob still owns and uses that P-bass regularly. He also plays in a newer group called "East of Venus" with Glenn and Stan of the Feelies along with Michael from WinterHours.
The LP that Richard plays these days doesn't seem to fit him despite the changes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clNuALHa_6E
Jimmy Mastro owns both Guitar Bar stores in Hoboken now. I volunteered to play in front of one for the Hoboken city festival over the summer, and shared the bill with his talented daughter Lilly. Ah, the Hoboken sound continues...
I think Jimmy is his generations' Mike Campbell. Last I heard Fred Smith is doing some set ups at the main store sometimes and maybe you can catch him there if your lucky...

Re: Richard Barone
Now I have one more new band to look up -- thanks, Adam! Btw, when i saw the feelies this summer, Brenda was using your old bass. Rich introduced me to her for the first time, and I mentioned to her that I thought the bass sounded really good.
Re: Richard Barone
Glenn is using a Tele in "East of Venus" and the Trypes that I got from Jim Yester of the Association! I think two guitars is the threshold of becoming a Feelies supplier!? I still have an old 58' Melody Maker that was a gift from Glenn and a Jag I bought off him. Fun stuff!

Re: Richard Barone
Rob Norris and Jim Mastro...A couple of cool dudes.
Rob was always very helpful back in the day to me and my band. Fine bassist IMO.
Jim made me feel great one day when I brought my son into Guitar Bar and he told my son how excellent one of my old bands was. Jim mentioned that he tours with Ian Hunter.

And it was you, Mitch Easter, who inspired me to get a blue Rickenbacker.blue330 wrote:It was Richard who inspired me to get a Rickenbacker.
The inspiration just keeps moving forward with Rickenbackers.
