I have a bunch of them! So will you. I included a CD of all of the restoration pictures when I sold it to Jeff. Some of the pics were never posted on the forum. Here are some of my favorites.
Fingers crossed Jaymi, I'm looking forward to meeting you both in Ontario, and maybe getting a little play !! I'll swap you a play of my v63 for a play of Ted's Cheyenne.
It's not here yet. It will probably be here friday which will give me just enough time to tweak and fiddle before I pack it up for saturday's show. As long as it comes in time Jim, I will be carrying it to Cali with me...and you're on for a play swap...

I got it this evening. It is a very interesting bass. Ted, your work is excellent. I need to do some more tweaking and get the bass side of the neck straightened a little, lower the action and see if I can get rid of the fret buzz from the 2-4 frets across the strings. A little buzz won't hurt for the show that I am doing because of the sound...This is a different neck profile than I am used to but reminds me of a F**der P... have not had a chance to plug it in yet so I have not yet heard the growl...more tomorrow.

Well, thank you Jaymi! That is very kind of you to say. Give her a good home and she will treat you right for a long time. The buzz is there because I left the frets more or less green. A good fret man can fix that for you very quickly. When it comes to fret finishing I am but a grasshopper..........
No worries. It may not go to Cali because I don't think I can get it done in the short space of time. Never know, I may roll with it anyway as backup for my 80 4003. My wife was even commenting on the bass and how nice looking it is. I am still fiddling with the 'a' string height to try to work out the buzz so I can at least play it in Cali... I also tuned it down a half step to play with this band....it sounds REALLY nice acoustic-wise tuned down...

I almost forgot, you are detuning to Eflat and using light strings. Yes, it will buzz a bit from that. I set it up using the standard tuning and DR Highbeams 40-100. There was some rattling that way but not enough to stop the show. Do you like the figuring on the fingerboard?
it has 45-105 on it right now courtesy of Mr Rath...and it only buzzes on the 3rd fret. I think I have the 'a' string to the point where I can drive that note. A lot of the songs require the 'c' and because of the patterns, I play in that position a bunch.
The fingerboard is really sharp...it has all the grains and then a hint of flame....sweet....excellent wood choice, my friend...the Ric site says this bass is a Nov 97...

For sure...It must have been used as the "swing from the chandelier" bass....takes all the abuse and then expects more from it...those are fighting words for me...I have seen some abused Rics but the original pictures of this one almost took the cake.
I am still trying to get over how light this one is..even my 4000 is not THIS light. This is the "allnighter gig" bass. Stand up and play for hours and never have a back problem...Too bad the 4001 basses couldn't have been this light...

I got mine out for a little while tonight as part of post-work/pre-holiday clear out the earwax session. Man she thumps! I don't know about your bass since the electronics are different, but I found that rolling the tone knobs back a hair takes a lot of the bark out and makes it bit smoother. It's definitely a keeper! I already have a friend waiting for me to sell it to him; I hope he likes waiting.
Enjoy your bass!
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.
Jaymi ... I'm glad you got it ... did you get a chance to plug it in yet? it has a nice growl ... I liked that bass but I wasn't sure it would make a good 5 string ... and what would I do with a 4 stringer ... I still want to convert a 4004C or CII to a five stringer ... I already have the gold bridge ... most ric basses sound best with the tone at 10 ...
