What recordings do you listen to when you wanna hear a Ric?

Nice! Ricaine does some rocking material, alright. Thanks for posting - I was never aware of these guys. I like the "But wait! There's more!" effect of 'June 23rd'.

I have a 1983 bootleg of REM playing in a Toronto club. .. 19 tracks of pristine awesome. The bass tone is (I am 90% sure) pure Rick, and that goes for the 360 sound too from Peter Buck. In all the early live bootlegs (I've owned a few throughout the years) of REM, Buck gets a mildly overdriven _snarl_ out of the 360 rather than a clean jangle. Great tone.

And then there's this. Second tune (a few minutes in) is great. Also notice she's using the neck pickup and picking near the bridge.

I'll add another band who's bassist uses Rickenbacker exclusively. Franz Ferdinand. Saw on You Tube beside the Jetglo 4003 he uses a 3000 as well sometimes.

Yep, that's Bob Hardy of Franz Ferdinand. Got a great shot of him with his Walnut 3001 in the book. It's got a sticker on the pickguard with big letters: "EADG." Maybe his 4003 is alternately tuned(?).

Yup, now that you mention it, I did see the EADG stickers, in big letters, on his bass on one of the videos. I just learmed "Take Me Out" and was looking for any subtleties he does live. I nearly fell over when I saw the Ric. I knew I loved that bass sound!!

I'll post my version of Take me Out played on my 4002 in a few days.

Yes's Fragile and Close to the Edge are givens, sure, but on Drama in '79, Squire really stretched out tonally and in the mix since Anderson wasn't there to keep his ego in check.

"Machine Messiah" and "Does It Really Happen?", which even includes a rare in-song bass solo towards the end (@ 5:23)

R.E.M., Reckoning -- the opening three tracks alone are a Ric bass sonic feast, thank you Mike Mills (and I believe Peter Buck was also playing a Ric at that time).

Genesis, Selling England by the Pound -- Mike Rutherford at his finest.

More contemporarily, there's Warpaint -- their most recent album The Fool even opens with solo Ric bass.

Not sure if it's been brought up in this thread but..................I just heard "Mystery Achievement" by The Pretenders for this first time in a long while. I know Pete Farndon used a Rick and it sure sounds like one on this track. Most of their first album bass tone sounds like Rickenbacker to my ears.

Yes, Pete did use a 4001, but that sounds like his Precision to me.

Fish is a fantastic lyricist and most probably influenced by the earlier proggers, I remember seeing them in 83 or 84 and come the time of the encore the crowd were shouting ''The Knife, The Knife'' inc me

Early Marillion, indeed! -- yes; Pete Trewavas played a 4000 on their first two albums, Script for a Jester's Tear in '83 and Fugazi in '84.
Their original front man Fish was indeed influenced by '70s Prog, but critix were a little too quick and lazy to compare him to Gabriel (even though, to be fair, yes, his voice was similar in tone, and he did wear greasepaint onstage!); he followed more closely Peter Hammill and Roger Waters.
