Has anyone seen this picture before? It really looks like fretless rick.

Interesting. Notice the position of the toggle. Up as opposed to Beatle years 4001S.

It is debated that Paul had a reverse toggle switch. I don't really know the definative answer.

IMO, Paul's 4001S had a "right-hand" wiring harness. That would make the down position the toaster.

I'm convinced "Love in Song" was done with a FL.

Funny how the brain works. I misread this post the first time and thought you said "Silly Love Songs". Intrigued, I listened to it over and over until i was convinced it had to be a fretless. Went to post on this thread and found that you were talking about a different song. :lol:

To my eyes,it looks like the toggle is in the middle position in that photo.

It's hard to tell, but I'd tend to agree that it's in the middle position. Which would make some sense. The 4001FL sounds quite a bit different than a fretted 4001 in terms of the effect of adding in the bridge PU. I could see PM liking both PUs on the FL even if he preferred the toaster on his 4001S.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
