Re: What Model would you buy for your second Ric?
I'm well past all of that....in my case, it was either a 360 WB, or a 381/12.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

IMHO, which is shared with many other comments here, the 360/12 is the way to go, sir!
i will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed, or numbered.

For my next Rickenbacker a 325C58 is on my shortlist.
A 12 string as a 330VP would be nice, too.
Place #3 on that list actually is a high gain 620.
In every case would buy a guitar, that SOUNDS different. Already having a 330/6VP a 360/6VP would be the last I would buy. A high gain 330/360 would be only on a second list. Love the VP sound...

Scott,
It doesn't surprise me that you were disappointed with the Strat XII. I've played two or three of them over the years, and they tend to sound muddy, whereas Ricks have that clarion ring that couldn't be mistaken for anything else. Have you ever played a 12-string Rickenbacker? Do any of your local music stores carry them? If not, two great places to purchase from would be Pick of the Ricks in Lindenwold, New Jersey, and Musician's Friend. MF has a longer (30 day) return policy, if that's a concern, but if you buy from POTR, you can rest assured that your guitar will arrive with a spot-on setup done by Chris Clayton, who is one of a handful of true Rick experts in the country. Good luck in your search for the right 360/12. Once you have one, you won't settle for anything else.

If I bought another Rick to add to my JG 360, it'd probably be a 650D (or a 380L if it came with no gold hardware). I'm very curious about the HB-1s - and both of those models also have maple fretboards with standard nut widths. Too bad both of those guitar models are discontinued.

John,
I really love my 650F it is a dream to play and for many years it has been my main heavy lead axe. I actually prefer the 650 on the neck pickup to the Strat or Les Paul for lead work. Oh and the fingerboard is wicked fast.
Interestingly enough it wasn't until recently that I began trying to get a jangle out of it, even though I grew up in the 60s and love all the music from that period. I have a new Toaster pickup sitting on the desk in front of me and plan to install that this weekend. First I plan to record some playing with the stock HB1 and then I will switch out the bridge pup and record that so everyone can judge for themselves. I am thinking I will go straight into the "board" with just the SoftTube VC2A emulator in front of it.
More to come,

Really, what you need to buy for your second Rick is a 360/12 C63, preferably in Jetglo, because everyone buys the model in fireglo, and different is good.

There is no reason to ever be bored.

Re: What Model would you buy for your second Ric?
Geez,. .. good question.
My only right now is a 360. My next will definitely be either a bass (not sure between the 4003 or 4004 cii) or a 12.
You simply cannot go wrong with a 660/12.The wider neck has already been mentioned. Also, it comes with toasters and - this is significant - a 12-saddle bridge. It does the jangle as well as anything else. Also, it has an _enormous_, large sound when overdriven. Nothing like it. The only issue, which was minor, is that my old one had a bit of neck dive. Most people don't seem to have this problem.
If I were actively looking for another six, I probably would not get another 360 or 330 - they are really pretty much the same except for cosmetically. I'd love to try a 381 or a 620 with humbuckers just for something totally different. Or for that matter a 650 or 350.
My 2 yuan.

That beautiful, burnt orange one-off Mr Hall had on Ebay a couple of weeks ago was at the top of my list, but my lottery ticket simply didn't win... sigh.
However, a black or MG 360/6 likely should be next. Already have the 12str 370.

Re: What Model would you buy for your second Ric?
So, Kevin, what do you think of your 370/12? Is it the RM model with the onboard compressor?
Re: What Model would you buy for your second Ric?
"Which Rickenbacker to buy?" is one of those multiple-choice questions with no wrong answer, although some people here would insist that the only correct response is "All of the above".
If your goal is to expand your tonal palette, I think a 12 is the way to go. 360 and 620 six-strings are both great guitars, but they aren't going to give you significantly different tones than your 330-6 already gives you.
While the 360-12 would be a fine choice, I think you should also give serious consideration to a 620-12. The small body size is very much a personal preference thing, but I'm a huge 620 fan and find them extremely comfortable to play. They are generally a bit cheaper than a 360-12, but are every bit as good in terms of quality and playability. The neck dimensions are the same as the 360, so if that is an issue for you the 660 might be something to consider (it is basically a 620 body with a wider neck, and toasters rather than hi-gains).
(I should also point out that based on some photos that were posted here a while ago, Peter Buck's main 12-string these days seems to be a 620-12).

I got a 2nd 480 JG - I still regret selling it, instead of modding it, anyway... after that came a 340 FG that's still with me, but will most definitely be replaced by a 360 FG
