Slowly but surely increasing the Rickenbacker collection.
No. 5 is a gorgeous 4001 from 1977 in a near mint Autumnglo finish.

Love at first sight it was...
On its way to Oz as I type this.

Looks a lot more like faded Fireglo, either that or it's the reddist AG i've seen.

Well, leaves can turn red too I guess...Grey wrote:Looks a lot more like faded Fireglo, either that or it's the reddist AG i've seen.
There is two AG currently on ebay that are fairly reddish too. The low level of yellowing for the binding makes me think it did not see much sunlight. But it is also one of the reddest AG I have seen. Or the brownest Fireglo for all I know...

Re: Slowly but surely increasing the Rickenbacker collection.
The shots of the backside look very much like Autumnglo and then the top has a considerably lighter and more reddish hue, yet there is almost no difference underneath the pickguard like if the top had faded.
Maybe my eyes are broken.

Re: Slowly but surely increasing the Rickenbacker collection.
I just realised it was probably made in the same batch than the 4001 Burgundyglo I sold last year (assuming RIC were still having the same production planning than now). The new one is QK4929, the one I sold was QK5099 (November 1977).
I never really like the bass after it was refretted. I hated the feeling of the fret ends going over the binding. The job was not done very well. Plus some idiot did engrave his initials at the back of the headstock.
So it is going to be nice to have a close to mint one.

Looks gorgeous! Congrats!

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: Slowly but surely increasing the Rickenbacker collection.
Good on you Colonel!
Congrats on your latest addition. I have a '77 ATG - Beatrice (QB-511) - that's probably my fave. Just absolutely stunningly stop-your-mind gorgeous.
And the sound of these mid-70's 4001's are pissah!
And I FINALLY joined the JG Club this week, thanks to Chris @ POTR.

Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .
Re: Slowly but surely increasing the Rickenbacker collection.
The top looks very much like the aged FG of my '72, but the shading on the back is very different.
This bass is in stunning condition! I think in this case, AG stands for AwesomeGlo!

I love Jetglo. To me it it THE traditional color of a Rickenbacker!

Re: Slowly but surely increasing the Rickenbacker collection.
I received the beast today.
Plays very well, as much 4001esque as you can wish for.
Sadly the bridge pick up is not working, the pickup was poorly mofied at some point and one of the wire he soldered snapped. I will fix that tomorrow. The seller was decent and offered a rebate.
It is actually much less reddish than on the pictures and is very much like a typical Autumnglo.
The neck is straight and the action very low. And contrary to my previous 1977 4001, it is free of the dead E plague. So all in all, I am pretty happy and should be GAS free for another couple of months...
