On the switch there are 3 sets of connections, I have used the top 2. Is it simply a matter of using the bottom 2 connections instead to reverse the operating mode? This is the tall (square) type push pull switch

Vintage Tone Switch - Reverse operating mode
I fitted a Vintage Tone Switch to my '78 4001 a while back, and I wired it in accordance with the instructions that were supplied with it, i.e. it operates in the same way as on the 4003 models so the Vintage Tone is selected by pulling the switch upwards. As I predominantly use the 4001 in the original 'Vintage' mode I want to alter the wiring on the switch so that it works the other way round, i.e. the Vintage position is on the switch down position.

Yes. I have done this to the neck pickup on my 4002.Baker69 wrote:On the switch there are 3 sets of connections, I have used the top 2. Is it simply a matter of using the bottom 2 connections instead to reverse the operating mode? This is the tall (square) type push pull switch

Did you wire up as I have mentioned?
Not knowing how the switch works I tried just swapping the wires round on it and it was just the same, which is why I think you might need to use the bottom 2 terminals instead of the top 2?

Yes, it is as you have said. The wire with the capacitor attached would go to the bottom 2. My 4001C64 is wired this way since I wanted the original sound with the cap in circuit to be the default sound. I didn't do the work myself, but I watched it being done.

It's not the "bottom two"... see here for John's proper diagram:

Move the wire on the top right of the switch, as seen in the diagram, to the bottom right.

Sorry, I was a bit mis-leading. When I said "bottom 2" what I meant was the bottom terminal and the next one up (central terminal), rather than the currently wired "top 2" of the central and top terminals. (i.e. I didn't mean both the bottom terminals next to each other).
Will give that a try, thanks.
Re: Vintage Tone Switch - Reverse operating mode
Hi all,
I moved the wire (without the inline cap) to the bottom terminal as suggested and it has done the job, thanks.
Yes, I know I could have just sorted this myself as a 'trial and error' exercise but I think it has been good to post it anyway and the info is now on here for anyone else who wants to do the reverse switch function on their 4001 (or even 4003 for that matter!).
Thanks.
