Ric bass + full sound support = :0)

Post by armybass »

My band played a breast cancer awareness benefit today and we had full sound support. Did not bring an amp, just played right through the system. They must have been Ric fans because they had my bass cranked and it sounded SOOOOOO good to hear my bass clear as a bell coming at me from every direction. Older man in his 70's came up to me and commented on my Ric. He said "lovely Rickenbacker...don't see them enough". To which I said "I have another one in that gig bad and two more at home". LOL. Great day, great gig, great cause and GREAT RIC!

I had a rehearsal this week and our new soundman came to listen to us and basically get all details of our needs, etc.

He came to me right away after the rehearsal and told everyone he has never heard of such a great Bass tone in a long time !!! I was playing my 1993 4001V63 through the Fender Super Bassman all tube head and the 410 Fender Neo pro cab. It cuts through like a knife and the tone is very warm at the same time !

I have another Ric on the way and can't wait to play it and compare, although I might string it with flats to have two different beasts too !

I have done that a few times in the past, but you do need good enough monitors or it can be frustrating.

I am fortunate to be playing with a band right now that has a full sound system. The only reason I take a small rig is my own on-stage monitor, and if I ever decide that is too much, then a Bass POD will be in the picture. But occasionally on smaller gigs with other bands I have to carry the room, so I still have a conventional rig.

Yes, having a good sound guy run a good sound system is everything.

That V63 has the nicest neck of all Ric basses I had a chance to put my hands on! I am getting a newer midnight blue 4003 this week and I can't wait to compare it with the v63!!!

What year is your 4003?

Our sound guy at church thinks my 2000 model 4003 sounds better than my other bass. Few people in my city would know what one is, so they always ask. We have practice tonight, think I will take the Ric!
