Half way there

I've just completed the layout for the 76th page of the book, two pages past the half-way point. So far I have finished the table of contents, the "about this book" and acknowledgments, introduction, a guide to date codes, and chapters on the 4000, 4001, 4001S, 4005, 3000/3001, 4008, 4080, 4002, 4003, 4001SB/4003SB, 4003S and 4001CS. I'm not working on them sequentially, but the model chapters are arranged chronologically from date of model introduction. I have yet to "convert" (from my old layout design) the chapters on the 2030/2050, 4001V63, 4003SPCs, 2020/2060/2030GF, 4004C, 4004L, 4004Cii, 4004LK, and 4001C64/C64S. I have yet to design chapters on the 4003S/5, 4003S/8, a page on controls and settings, the chapter on colors, and the final chapter on one-offs, customs and other Rick porn. This last one will be at the back of the book and can be adjusted to make up the proper page count. I'm trying to fit in a fold-out of the Rickenbacker Bass timeline/family tree. Don't know if that will be able to fit and am waiting for an answer from the group publisher – in New Jersey. Hope they're high and dry!

Great news! I finally got the publisher to find and send me a full-length portrait photo of Paul McCartney's 4001S DA23. This same photo has appeared in several other books, so it won't be new to everyone, but the book just wouldn't have been right without it.

Up to 83 pages in "final" form. I would be quite a bit further, but I spent the entire weekend in the hospital. I had some unusual "tingly" feelings that I thought may be "pre-stroke" symptoms. Went to the emergency room and they jumped right to it, checking me for more symptoms. After numerous tests on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, they couldn't find anything obviously wrong. The symptoms stopped as of Saturday night, and occurred only four or five times and just for a few minutes at a time. Neurologist can't quite figure it out. The good news is that I got head C.T. scan and MRI, E.K.G., chest X-ray, ultrasound of my heart and carotid arteries, even a "trans esophageal ecocardiogram" where they stuck an ultrasound goodie down my throat to get a better picture of the ol' pumper. So with everything checking out "normal" I get to move forward without an eminent threat. Very reassuring.

Paul, great to hear that you "tested" well! Kudos to you for even going to get checked out early! Us guys tend to trivialize symptoms, or worse yet, explain them away.

Also, good news on your book. This book has been long overdue and you are putting some great information and images together which, I believe will satisfy the most ardent Ric connoisseur. We can't wait!!

Paul, I am very glad to read that you are ok. You were RIGHT to have yourself checked out. Like someone said earlier here, men usually explain away, or trivialize health things. Glad it turned out to be nothing.

Also, GREAT to hear the book is coming along......I can't wait to see it!!!!!!!!

Sorry, Greg, but I can't do that. I have struggled for months to obtain the publishing rights for the photo in my book, but have no such rights to distribute the photo otherwise.

That said, the same photo is in Andy Babiuk's "Beatles Gear," Tony Bacon's "The Bass Book," and others. The photo was probably taken maybe 10 or 15 years ago in England for Balfour and in my book the photo is credited to "Outline Press Ltd." So the bass is in its present form; sanded, rounded horns, new treble pickup and surround, new pick guard, new tailpiece, zero fret, etc.
