We may be losing power at any time, it is extremely windy here and we already lost power for a few seconds around dinner time and a couple times it has been flickering in the past 1/2 hour....................................

Very windy and rainy here all day too, but I don't think it's from the hurricane...

Best of luck to all you guys out East...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I am prepared but not worried. I think it will be more wind than water this time around.

where is your sister?
Not to hijack this thread too badly... but those of us at a safe distance from Sandy are hoping for the best for all of you in the storm's path.

My sister is near Schenectady, that area really got messed up by Irene, bridges down, dams and locks washed out, and many homes flooded or simply washed away. Fortunately her house is high and dry, and it looks like the winds there haven't been as bad as forecast this time around.

For those of you finally reading this days later after your power has been restored - don't you love how a Rick bass still sounds like a Rick even when it's not amplified?
Turn on, tune up, rock out!

I'll most likely be playing the Martin if the power goes out, like it just did again for a few seconds. I had to reboot the computer.

On my 4002, the same brand and gauge of strings that I have strung it with for going on twenty years now: GHS Progressives in custom gauges: 45-60-80-105. And the same set for the last few years.

On my 3000 I have D'Addario XL's. Sounds as good, but I haven't tried many brands...which translates to I'm cheap at the moment!

(First off... positive thoughts for all who are dealing with the effects of the hurricane!)

I use Circle K strings on my 4003 basses. The feel is great and the sound is excellent for my tonal goals. I'm not 100% sure what I have on my 4001 right now (oh, the shame), either Circle K or Dean Marley Blue Steels (I'd have to get it out of the crypt and check it out to know which set is on it).

On my 4003's I have also tried:
- the original RIC strings (pretty good)
- Curt Mangan strings from POTR (pretty good)
- D'Addario Pro Steels (ok)
- RotoSound Swing 66 (disappointing)

On my 4001 I have also tried:
- Dean Marley Blue Steels (very good)
- RotoSound Swing 66 (good - but it's been many years since I had them)
- Lots of others to various levels of disappointment

On my other basses I use:
- DR DDT strings (good - but don't stay in tune very well)
- D'Addario Pro Steels (good)
- Dean Markley Blue Steels (very good)
- SIT Power Wound Stainless (good)

My '89 4003s is currently sporting a new set of GHS Pressurewounds. Can't wait for them to mellow....they may be the ultimate compromise between flats and rounds.

'76 4001: D'Addario EXL 170
'89 Blackstar: GHS Super Steels (tried as an alternative to Rotosound. My jury is still out on this.)
'00 4001V63: Rotosound RS66LD

I might try GHS Boomers on the Blackstar or just revert to Rotosounds.

'86 Shadow: DR Lo-Riders Stainless Steel Lite, .040-.100,
'73 4001: TI JR344 (Jazz ROUNDS)
'86 4003S: Fender 7250ML Nickelplated Steel Super, medium light, .040-.100

Very happy with these sets on their respective basses. This is what I have been using for the last 2-3 years and probably will continue using.
