Rickenbacker Fever

Post by wim »

I found this on Urban dictionary:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... er%20Fever
urban dictionary wrote:A disease in which one has the strong longing for a Rickenbacker Bass or Guitar. They will constantly look up photos, videos, and reviews of the guitar or bass even if they have already seen it once or twice before. Eventually said person will be able to analyze a fake from a real one in seconds and be able to distinguish the sound from other basses. Sometimes Rickenbacker Fever may lead to purchasing a fake or really beat up Rickenbacker just for the thrill of having one. A victim of said fever will spend most time fantasizing about the guitar and looking for good deals. The acquisition of a couple thousand dollars and purchase of the guitar is the only way to cure the fever for the moment. Also referred to as "Ric Fever"

Guy 1: I got over Rickenbacker Fever! Got me a 4003 yesterday.
Guy 2: I've got Rickenbacker Fever so bad I shake when I see one!
This is something you might expect to originate from this forum.
Anyone here?

I doubt it, we call it RAS.

The only cure is buying a real one; a faker wouldn't even scratch it.

RAS, Rickenbacker Fever, whatever. It has no effect on me... None at all... No, really, I can resist... Honest, you see, I've got less than 100 of 'em, and I haven't bought one for a while, so I'm really OK... Someone said I'm just in denial... I've never been to Egypt...

Reminds me of the allegedly true story of the British naval force who were sent to the Faroes (the Faroe islands in the Atlantic, mid-way between Norway and Iceland) on a secret expeditionary mission during the Second World War. A coded message was sent back to Naval Command HQ asking for detailed maps of the Faroes. Shortly afterwards, maps showing the Egyptian Pyramids, tombs of the Pharaohs, were delivered to the flotilla by plane. I've no idea if this is true, but a good yarn nonetheless!
